Im Park der psychiatrischen Klinik in Prag, Tschechien, befindet sich eine alte Mauer, die weit aus der Mitte gerückt einen Durchgang aufweist. In gleichmäßigem Rhythmus ist die Mauer in Felder geteilt, besitzt Vorsprünge und Nischen, die alle leicht variieren.
Der längere Teil der Mauer wird genau vermessen und erhält einen maßgeschneiderten Überzug aus hellblauer LKW-Plane. Das Material ist abwaschbar und erinnert an die Überzüge von Schaumstoffmatten.
Dieser Überzug geht auf die Individualität der Mauer ein, entwickelt aber auch eine Norm, ein System, das alle einzelnen Felder der Mauer in ein Schema bringt. Das eine Feld der Mauer, auf der anderen Seite des Durchgangs, wird nicht überzogen und zeigt weiterhin seine individuellen Details.
Wie weit werden Eigenheiten des Individuums akzeptiert und als der Norm entsprechend empfunden? Ab wann werden die Grenzen der Normalität, oder der Normalität wie wir sie definieren, überschritten? Was ist normal aus der Sicht eines Patienten, der in der Klinik behandelt wird?

In the park of the psychiatric hospital in Prague, Czech Republic, is an old wall and in the middle of this wall is a passageway. At regular intervals the wall is divided into areas; it has noses and niches, always varying slightly. The longer part of the wall is being measured and covered with a tailored coating of light blue truck awning. The material is washable and reminiscent of the covers of rubber foam mats. The cover responds to the individuality of the wall, but simultaneously develops a system that fits all areas of the wall into a pattern. One part of the wall on the other side of the passageway is not covered and still shows its individual details.

To what extent are peculiarities of the individual accepted and perceived as conforming to the norm? Where are the borders of normality, or of what we define as such?
What is considered normal by a patient being treated in this hospital?
